Bihar By election 2024: By-elections are to be held on four seats in Bihar on November 13, which include Ramgarh, Tarari Belaganj and Imamganj. Prashant Kishore (PK)’s political party is going to start its political career from these four seats. He has fielded Jan Suraj Party candidates from there. According to his election affidavit, five criminal cases are registered against Jan Suraj Party’s Belaganj candidate Mohammad Amjad between 1995 and 2022. In one of these cases, he is accused of attempt to murder, disturbing public peace and criminal intimidation.
Amjad had faced defeat in the 2005 and 2010 assembly elections. In 2010, he lost from Belaganj on JDU ticket by more than 4,500 votes. JSP had initially declared Mohammed Khilafat Hussain, an educationist, as its candidate, whom Amjad had earlier supported, but Kishor said Amjad was under pressure from supporters to contest the elections. Belaganj seat had become vacant after Surendra Prasad Yadav of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was elected to the Lok Sabha from Jehanabad. Amjad will have to face a triangular contest against RJD’s Vishwanath Kumar Singh and Janata Dal (United)’s Manorama Devi.
JSP’s Imamganj candidate Jitendra Paswan, 47, has two criminal cases registered against him between 2022 and 2023. In one case, he is accused of fraud and dishonestly grabbing property. At the same time, Paswan, who has studied till 12th, will face Deepa Manjhi of Hindustan Awami Morcha (Secular), who is the daughter-in-law of former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi. Manjhi from Gaya Lok Sabha elections After winning, he vacated the Imamganj seat and since then has become a Union Minister.
Sushil Kumar Singh of JSP in Ramgarh has declared padding case since 2019 in his election affidavit. He is accused of attempt to murder and disturbing public peace. This seat had become vacant after RJD’s Sudhakar Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha as Buxar MP. RJD has fielded Ajit Singh, son of party state president Jagdanand Singh and brother of Sudhakar, while BJP has fielded Ashok Singh in the Ramgarh by-election. The JSP leader said the cases against party candidates “may be politically motivated”, but added that the law “only bars convicted people from contesting elections”.
